In 1937, the Union of Northwestern Employees was formed and incorporated with a membership of 1,237. It’s first contract established a five day work week and compensation for overtime. Each subsequent year the Union brought improvements to the workplace, including paid holidays and family medical leave, evidence that collective action through Unions is still the most powerful force for the betterment of working families.
